Constantly advertisers are seeking to optimize efficiency and effectiveness of their advertising activities. To achieve this, a comprehensive and consistent planning process in advertising becomes an essential requirement. Key element is the advertising strategy. Quality, coverage and accordance with the superior communication and marketing strategy are crucial for the communicative impact. Against this background this thesis will develop a model of task-oriented advertising strategies based on existing approaches to classify advertising strategies. Furtherly, the model will be tested by an explorative analysis of 16 campaign-cases. Three major types of advertising strategies with corresponding sub classifications will be identified: launch advertising (introductory advertising, line-extension advertising), expansion advertising (follow-up, rebrush und relaunch advertising) and loyalty advertising. These three types of strategies show significant differentiation with respect to the character of the goods and services advertised, target group, height of budget, communicative objectives, positioning, advertising message, weight of media advertising within the over-all communication mix as well as selection of the lead media. Following the model of task-oriented advertising strategies, companies can ensure that their advertising activities are based on a complete strategic basis safeguarding advertising effectiveness and efficiency.
