In this paper we present an Intellectual Property (IP) Management system for the super-capacitor pilot plant which is a hybrid Data Mining and Case-Based Reasoning system incorporates Intellectual Property models to help filter information in order to make Intellectual Property protection decisions more precisely. The main issue of implementing this hybrid system is a global knowledge base which is derived from an international searchable Intellectual Property rights database and where a priori internal IP information is unavailable, the system builds potential preference IP models by updating or refining the local information database. Both the knowledge base and IP models are classified using a support vector machine and retrieved from the case based reasoning cycle. The objective of this project is to combine data mining technology and artificial intelligence pattern classifiers as a means to construct an Intellectual Property Management system and to link this to the case-based reasoning cycle in order to provide specific IP protection decision to the user in a timely manner.
